On 28th January, 1915 the 1st Bedfordshire battalion of 15 Brigade, 5th Division moved into trenches at Wulverghem, south of the Wulverghem-Messines road where they remained until relieved on 1st February. During their time here they faced all the usual dangers of trench warfare and suffered casualties on a daily basis. George Ion died from wounds on 2nd February and it is likely that he was one of those wounded during this period in the front line. |
